Using Backgrounds and Assets
The Vivi Whiteboard allows you to customise the background of your boards to suit your lesson needs. Backgrounds can be applied to a single board or across all boards in your session.
Changing the Background
Click the Background icon ( ▨ ) in the left toolbar
The Select a Background panel will appear
Choose a background from the available categories
Background Categories
Category | Description |

Graphic Paper | Pre-designed backgrounds including Blank, Dots, Graph, Handwriting, Isometric Dots, Large Dots, Large Graph, Large Handwriting, Large Lines, Lines and Music Staff |
Tables and Diagrams | Structured layouts suitable for diagrams and tables |
Custom | Displays images you have previously uploaded via Upload Image or PDF, or images captured using the Annotation feature available in Share Camera. |
Upload Image or PDF | Upload an image or PDF file directly from your device to use as the board background. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG and PDF |
📘 Images captured via the Annotation feature will automatically appear in the Custom tab, making them easy to reuse as board backgrounds in future sessions. For more information on Annotations, refer to the Annotation guide.
Annotation
The Annotation feature allows you to capture a screenshot of your current screen or camera feed and immediately open it as a background in the Vivi Whiteboard, enabling teachers to annotate and explain content in real time.
How to Use Annotation
Start a Share Screen or Share Camera session from the Vivi Client
Once sharing, you will see a toolbar at the top of your screen
Click the Annotate button ( ✏️ ) in the toolbar
The Vivi Whiteboard will open immediately with the captured screenshot set as the board background
Use the whiteboard tools to annotate, draw or explain content on top of the screenshot
To share the whiteboard with the classroom display and connected students, click the Share button in the top right corner of the whiteboard
📘 The annotated screenshot will also be saved to the Custom tab in the Background library, making it available for reuse in future whiteboard sessions.
📘 Teachers can choose to annotate privately on their device first and share to the display only when ready — giving full control over when students see the content.
