Student Access to Vivi

When students log into Vivi, by default they have limited access to Vivi’s features. They are unable to share their device to the classroom display without teacher permission, however can use the Whiteboard and Screenshot/Annotate features on their devices.

Passing Control to Students

If a student would like to have control of the classroom display, they can use the Request Control button in their app. It is optional for them to do this. When a student requests control, a notification will appear in the teacher’s app.

To pass control to a student, select Give Student Control from the room’s homepage. A list of students who have connected to the room will be shown with any students who have requested control shown at the top.

To pass control to a student, select their name from either list of students.

Once a student has control of the classroom display they will be able to use other features like Play Content.

Removing Student Control

While a student is sharing, the teacher still has control over the classroom display. To remove control from a student, you can:

  • Click on the X next to their name under Students in Control.

  • Click on another student’s name to pass control to a different student.

  • Select Stop All from anywhere in the app.

  • Share your own screen (or use any of the other features).

  • Select Stop from the lower tool bar on the room’s homepage.

Student Screen Share Preview

There are times when it is useful to be able to preview what a student currently has on their screen prior to giving them control of the classroom display. If a student has requested control, select the eye (Preview) symbol next to their name.

Once selected, a pop-up will appear with a live preview of what the student currently has on their device.

If the student is on a iOS device, such as an iPad, they will need to engage Screen Mirroring. If they are on a MacBook, they may need to engage AirPlay. If the student is on an Android or Chromebook device, they may need to give permission via a pop-up.

Any of these steps will need to be done prior to the live preview starting.

If they are looking at something unrelated to the class, select Deny to not give them control of the classroom display.

If they are looking at something related to the class, select Share Screen to give them control of the classroom display. You can also click and hold on the Share Screen button to use Split Screen and give them control of one quarter of the screen.

If you click on the Preview button for a student who has not requested control, a notification will appear in their app and they can choose to give you permission to view their screen.

Split Screen with Students

Teachers are able to use Vivi’s Split Screen feature to give students control of one quarter of the classroom display. To use, select the Split Screen icon next to a student’s name. Using the bar that appears at the bottom of the app, select which quarter of the classroom display the student will be placed on.

Repeat this process for up to 4 students.

Once ready to stop a student or all students from sharing, you can:

  • Click on the X next to their name under Students In Control to remove one student.

  • Click on the Split Screen button next to another student’s name to pass control of that quarter to a different student.

  • Select Stop All from anywhere in the app to stop all students from sharing.

  • Use the drop down to choose a specific quarter of the screen then select Stop from the lower tool bar on the room’s homepage to stop a specific student from sharing.
